Denying The Bleeding Obvious

I don't think the Australian public will forgive this sort of serial denial, particularly when it is our own security that is being used as a political football. As two ABC reports today make clear, Deputy PM John Anderson was quickly brought into line by Howard's spin-meisters after admitting the war in Iraq made Australia more of a target for terrorists:

12:16pm - Iraq war may have raised terrorist risk: Anderson.

3:09pm - Anderson denies Australia at higher terrorism risk

Fear, ironically, works both ways. Such obvious denials of reality only serve to highlight John Howard's great fear, which is that the Australian people will blame him for dragging us all into an illegal, illogical war, and making life much more dangerous for all of us as a result.
