Militant Japan Redux?

A call for peace and reason from a top Japanese newspaper editorial:
I have heard rumblings that the Japan-U.S. security system is about to enter a phase of closer military cooperation under the shared value of democracy. This is worrisome.

The United States tends to resort to war under the banner of democracy. Japan still cannot shake off its past. I urge you to frankly talk about such inclinations during your last summit meeting with Bush. Do not make what the cynics say true: that the Bush-Koizumi friendship is only about forgiving each other for your shortcomings.
This comes at a time when Henry Kissinger is worried about a Japan armed with nukes.
