The Fifth Amendment protects witnesses from being forced to incriminate themselves. To "plead the Fifth" is a refusal to answer a question because the response could form self-incriminating evidence.Is Dubya gonna have the last laugh on Uncle Dick and friends?

I too am amazed by the lack of pardons (and no reports of Rethuglicans ACTUALLY trashing government offices the way they falsely accused the Clintonites of doing.) The Atrios explanation makes sense, although it's going to expose those bastards to a lot of grief in legal proceedings now. Assuming the Dems have the courage to actually investigate.
But all told, with things not turning out as overtly bad as my fervid mind expected, I feel a bit silly for my extreme paranoia.
