You Have Gotta Be Kidding

US suspects Zarqawi fled Fallujah.
Lieutenant General Thomas Metz, the multi-national force corps commander, says he believes the most wanted man in Iraq has escaped the city.

"Some of the senior leaders probably have fled," he said. "I would hope not but I've got to assume that those kind of leaders understand the combat power we can bring."
The entire justification for the assault on Falluja has always been that residents refused US demands to hand over Zarqawi. Of course, residents always claimed he was not in the city, so how could they hand him over? It now seems the residents (what's left of them) were right.
