"JUST 62 per cent of US registered voters trust that their ballots will be accurately counted in the presidential election, according to a poll released today.

Another 22 per cent of registered voters who were surveyed said they were 'somewhat confident' about the vote counting system, according to the University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey.

'These findings are appalling,' said Adam Clymer, the survey's political director.

'If there is one thing the government in a democracy should be able to assure, it is an accurate vote count, and assure it so firmly that people will expect it.'"
