US Goes Back to the UN Again

The USA has agreed to seek a new UN resolution on Iraq. Colin Powell said the US now expects the measure to be passed before it formally transfers power to an Iraqi government.

'I think there will be a new resolution as we move closer to the first of July,' he told German media.

The US will be looking for a UN resolution to rubber-stamp their invasion and lend credence to their ongoing presence in the country, enough to satisfy their increasingly nervous "coalition of the wilting" partners and stop them withdrawing troops.

But a new resolution is also an opportunity for the UN to take control of the situation, indeed the whole country. If the US is really preparing to withdraw - and I seriously doubt that, of course - why not use this resolution to push for a complete UN takeover pending secure national elections in a few months?
