Australians, Hang Your Heads In Shame

Who is now running Australia? The USA or Israel? Either way, our Government under John Howard has become a defacto puppet regime.

The United Nations today declared that Israel must demolish any sections of it's 370-mile long "security perimeter" wall that are built on Palestinian land. The vote reinforces a recent World Court ruling. Only six nations voted against the reolution, with one hundred and fifty in favour. The six nations voting against were Israel and the United States (predictably), the US-dependent islands of Micronesia, Palau and the Marshall Islands... and Australia.

The US Ambassador said the resolution was "unbalanced" and threatened Middle East peace. What world are these people living in? Why does the USA support Israeli Zionist expansionism? And, more perplexingly, why on earth does Australia support it?

Another concern with this UN vote is the way it is being reported in over-simplified terms, with even reputable agencies like UPI and Reuters saying that the vote calls for Israel to "tear down the wall". In fact, it only calls for Israel to dismantle the sections that have been built on land that is on the Palestinian side of the "red line", a delineation that was agreed by all parties including the US and Israel.

The resolution also called on Switzerland to "consider" convening an international review of the Fourth Geneva convention, which prohibits building on occupied land.
