Schiavo Autopsy: Hypocrites Exposed

Senate GOP majority leader Bill Frist is a transplant surgeon who was once considered a likely Presidential contender in 2008. Not anymore, one would like to think.

Frist told the US Senate on March 17:
"To be able to make a diagnosis of persistent vegetative state - which is not brain dead; it is not coma; it is a specific diagnosis and typically takes multiple examinations over a period of time because you are looking for responsiveness - I have looked at the video footage. Based on the footage provided to me, which was part of the facts of the case, she does respond."
Now an autopsy reveals that Ms Schiavo's brain had withered to half the normal size, she was completely blind and would have had no idea what was happening when her hydration tubes were removed.

Yesterday, Dr. Frist did not respond to questions about the autopsy findings, saying he had not had time to review them. His spokeswoman sought out reporters to claim that Dr. Frist "never made a diagnosis."

Representative Tom DeLay, the House majority leader said on March 20:
"Ms. Schiavo's condition, I believe, has been misrepresented by the media. Terri Schiavo is not brain dead; she talks and she laughs, and she expresses happiness and discomfort. Terri Schiavo is not on life support."
Yesterday, a spokesman for Tom Delay was not answering questions.

President Bush abandoned his ranch Texas on Palm Sunday to sign the Terri Schaivo bill into law, marking the first time Congress had ever given itself such powers of intrusion.

Yesterday his spokesman, Scott McClellan, said:
"It doesn't change the position that the president took. The president believes we should stand on the side of defending and protecting life."
Sure... Like the lives of innocent Iraqis, like the lives of innocent protesters in Uzbequistan, like the lives of AIDS sufferers in Africa, inmates on Death Row in Texas, detainees in cages in Gitmo...
