Bush still can't say 'sorry' to ordinary Arabs

"Speaking after a private meeting with Jordan's King Abdullah II, Mr Bush revealed: 'I told him I was sorry for the humiliation suffered by the Iraqi prisoners and the humiliation suffered by their families.'

The Media are now reporting this as: "Bush Says Sorry".

Sorry, but it's still not enough. Bush needed to apologize to all Arabs, not just one King, and he should have done it by now. Of course, it wouldn't have made much difference. But the fact that he is so arrogant that he cannot even apologize properly - that DOES make a difference.

A friend has properly compared this to Queen Elizabeth's inadequate and delayed response to the death of Princess Diana. By failing to issue immediate and sincere condolences, Lizzie did irreperable harm to the very monarchy she was struggling to protect. GOP-lovers take note.

The case also reminds me of John Howard's inability to say 'Sorry' to Australian aborigines for past abuses and their continuing poverty.
