The new head of MI6, John Scarlett, tried to persuade weapons inspectors in Iraq to harden up a report on their hunt for weapons of mass destruction.
"Scarlett suggested that the Iraq Survey Group report should include claims about Saddam Hussein's supposed arsenals - which had already been proven unreliable, an unnamed member of the ISG was quoted as saying in The Mail on Sunday."
In the lead-up to the Hutton Report, let us remember, Scarlett was strongly tipped to take the blame for the WMD fiasco. But the report was a Whitewash and Scarlett is now set to take unprecedented power - a reward for a job well done? How can democracy survive when there is no accountability and people with zero public trust are promoted to such high positions of power?
