Up to 38,000 dead in the Pakistan quakes. How many 9/11's is that? The death toll is obviously worsened by inadequate housing, inaccessible roads, lack of rescue resources, all the usual symptoms of Third World poverty. When are we affluent Westerners going to get serious about declaring a war on poverty?
US TV evangelist Pat Robertson says disasters like this latest earthquake MIGHT point to the 'second coming':
What was called the Blessed Hope of the Bible is that one day Jesus Christ would come back again, start a whole new era, that this world order that we know would change into something that would be wonderful that we'd call the millennium...Sounds a bit like a PNAC primer, doesn't it? Robertson also had a bit more to say about Hugo Chavez:
The truth is, this man is setting up a Marxist-type dictatorship in Venezuela, he's trying to spread Marxism throughout South America, he's negotiating with the Iranians to get nuclear material and he also sent $US1.2 million in cash to Osama bin Laden right after 9/11...Just don't suggest that Bush Snr was involved in the assassination of JFK, because that would be a completely crazy conspiracy theory!
And I know he sent a warm congratulatory letter to Carlos the Jackal, he's a friend of Muammar Gaddafi. He's made common cause with these people that are considered terrorists.
And by the way, folks, there is no truth whatsoever in the rumour (which did NOT start here) that when Bush called Pakistan's military dicator (let's not call him a President all the time, OK?) to express his condolences, he also casually asked whether Osama Bin Laden might be among the victims.

An era in which Christianity reigns supreme ... Hrm, didn't we already try this once before? Yeah, that's right, we did. It was called "The Dark Ages".
