Gotta Be A Lesson Here Somewhere...

Am I the only one who sees the irony?

Fiji freemasons held for sorcery:
A group of freemasons have had to spend a night in jail in Fiji, after local villagers complained they were practising witchcraft.

The 14 men, including eight Australians and a New Zealander, had been holding a night-time meeting on Denerau island.

The New Zealand man told reporters he had spent a "wretched" time in jail, and blamed the mix-up on the actions of "dopey village people".

Police also seized wands, compasses and a skull from the freemasons' lodge.

Bit of a linguistic quibble here: I can see the humour in the situation, but not "irony". Was that an inexact word choice on your part, or am I missing something?

I would have liked to go to Fiji for a holiday (assuming that we were staying here) because I work with a number of Fijians, but no way would I spend any time or money in a country controlled by a thug like Banimarama.

Plus they probably have big cockroaches there. That's my "Room 101" terror. One of the reasons we moved to Vic. is because it's cold enough to keep down the creepy-crawlies that you must deal with in troppo-land. Although when I whipped the cover off the barbie two days ago to grill some steaks (we burn flesh almost any time it's not raining) there were three of the bastards I had to kill. And then wipe the area down with alcohol. While wearing rubber hospital loves. Such is the nature of phobias.

Whenever I hear "Freemasons" I think of all these weird US groups like Skull and Bones, Illuminati etc.

I think it's ironic that a fairly simplistic, "Developing" society like Fiji can bravely accuse these crazy people of witchcraft, whereas in the USA you cannot even talk about the fact that Bush and Kerry were both Skull and Bones men without being labelled a kook.

C'est ironique, n'est-ce pas?

The Skull & Boneser vs. Skull & Boneser angle came up (I think it was on left-wing talk radio) during the 2004 U.S. elections, like maybe Kerry was just throwing the race to Bu-shit to keep it in the frat. I thought at the time "That's just crazy talk. No way could things be that devious." Five years later, after seeing all the political and financial shit that's gone down, benefitting the same Ivy League playas, with ANOTHER Harvard guy replacing a Yale guy in the White House, I'm starting to believe. Like I am with WTC-7. I hate it when I start seeing the veracity of what I once thouht was tinfoil. Am I going nutso, or getting sane?
