Fortress Washington

"The White House, the Capitol building and the Washington Monument are shrouded by curtained chain-link fences, or 8-foot-high wooden barriers. Behind these stockades, hundreds of millions of dollars worth of security enhancements are being built in a town that some are now calling Fortress Washington."

The "most photographed building in America is walled off for three blocks around. "

One observer, Brent Jesfiak of Troy, N.Y., says it's "a reminder of the paranoia of those in power."
