US tortured Australian in Egypt:

"Australian terror suspect Mamdouh Habib was allegedly tortured in Egypt before being sent to Guantanamo Bay in Cuba, according to Qatar's former minister of justice, Dr Najeeb Al-Nauimi.

SBS's Dateline program tonight explores allegations about the treatment of Mr Habib, beginning with his capture and interrogation in Pakistan in 2001.

It claims to have unearthed the mystery of what happened to Mr Habib before he became one of the two Australian citizens being detained at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba by the United States.

He has been held there for over two years without trial.

The former Qatari justice minister says Mr Habib was tortured and interrogated in Egypt 'in a way in which a human cannot stand up'."
