Old, Gifted And White

That's me. One in 100,000, when I was back in my old selective school. What happened, eh?

Gifted, talented, but it's no easy ride

There were 100,000 kids in your school? Fark! You'll have to hold your class reunions in a stadium...

I was one of about 600 kids at a supposedly selective school, and I broke the record for IQ tests there. So assuming you had to be "1 in 1000" to get there....

But even that was not enough to get any special attention: the headmaster was a rugby player, which explains a bit.

Curiously, none of my old classmates seem to have achieved anything much, either. So then you have to wonder what was the point of even having such a school.

No doubt if I had excelled at rugby I would have attracted far more attention.

But if you had excelled at rugger, you wouldn't have been bothered by that pesky high IQ for long...
