Rats Start Deserting Bush's Sinking Ship

Juan Cole says what I was going to say - honest!

Which is that recent comments by Paul Bremer and Donald Rumsfeld - coupled with Bush's dismal debate display and the final report on Saddam's nonexistent WMDs - indicate a few people in the Bush cabal are getting ready to save their own skins.

Can Bush & Co cling to the lies for three more weeks? Cheney certainly seemed to be digging in his heels during the VP debate. Well, what else can he do?

Ultimately, though, it may be the US media who decide whether the Bush Ship goes down in a spectacular ball of flaming public indignation. Imagine if Rupert Murdoch decided to sack half his top editors and run with an aggressive new anti-Bush angle - it would make a damn good show and it would sure sell a lot of newspapers!

The problem, of course, would be what happens when the editors start talking about where they got their orders from.... But then again, Murdoch is an extreme example!
