CBS Poll: Bottom Drops Out for President, and 6 in 10 Want Out of Iraq, Now:
A CBS News Poll released tonight found President Bush at his lowest popularity level ever, with just 37% approving the job he is doing.Even the bottom-feeders are distancing themselves from the smell.
One of the most startling numbers: 69% say things in the U.S. are pretty seriously on the wrong track--the highest number since CBS News started asking the queston in 1983.
Another: 55% now say the U.S. should have stayed out of Iraq, the highest figure to date. Almost 60% want us to "leave as soon as possible" compared to 36% who want to "stay as long as it takes."
Only 26% say the country is heading in the right direction, half the number of two years ago.
But the numbers for Bush are bad pretty much across the board:
--32% approve of his handling of Iraq.
--the same number say he shares their "priorities for the country"
--54% say the economy is getting worse.
--62% urge cutting spending on Iraq to pay for hurricane rebuilding.
