A Navy Seabee serving overseas during World War II, the elder Hake is part of what's known as the "Greatest Generation."

Barbara Bongard, the younger Hake's sister, said she remembers him reading about the "Greatest Generation" after 9-11 and saying he wanted to do something that would make a difference, like Dad did...

It's all about baseball, obviously....
