Double Trouble?

As Hurricane Rita heads for Texas and/or Louisianna, spare a thought for those who evacuated New Orleans for the "safety" of the Houston Astrodome:
Alicia Baxter - chased into the Superdome in New Orleans, then the Astrodome in Houston by Hurricane Katrina - said she couldn't believe her luck.

"I'm about to go kill myself," she said as relatives packed up behind her. "This is unbelievable."
Who's got yer ass, girl? Yep, it's them good ole Bush Boyz...

Repeat after me:

There is no such thing as Global Warming.
There is no such thing as Global Warming.
There is no such thing as Global Warming.
There is no such thing as Global Warming....

at least there is no convincing proof that global warming is causing the Hurricanes. The data set is to small to be conclusive. People who use computer models say the .5% increase in the surface temp of the oceans will not be causing increased frequency or severity of hurricanes till 2050. Peole who look at historical data say it has aleady happened. We need more time to assess. Just hope it is not too late by then.

Plus there is the fact that hurricanes themselves run on a 60 to 70 year cycle where sometimes they are not so active, and at other parts of the cycle (like now) they are more active.

Nonetheless I think that Bush and his administraion are dangerously anti-science.

Wadard,

You're a great one for reciting the corporate line and then throwing in a subtle disclaimer, aren't you!

Look carefully: most of the scientists questioning whether Global Warming is real are working for the US government or for corporations which have an interest in maintaining current pollution levels. The majority of independent scientific voices agree that current pollution levels are either causing or at the very least exacerbating the global warming trend.

Yet even if you do tow the Bush line on this, there is no reason at all not to cut back pollution and wholeheartedly support the Kyoto protocol, since even Bush scientists admit that we are heading towards a major catastrophe.

The only arguments against cutting back pollution are greedy economic ones. How about we cut back the cost of military expenditure instead?
