A Letter From Spotsylvania

Gene Sterna tells his local paper that the Bush administration has been a failure across the board:
I cannot recall an administration that has caused so much pain and suffering as this one ["Bush sees no pullout before '09," March 22].

In five years of Republican leadership, has anything gone right?

A war with no end in sight, 2,300 young solders whose lives were cut short, 17,000 wounded (many of whom will never fully recover).

I ask, would those brave soldiers have died and received such terrible wounds had our administration planned properly?

Why were they not given the proper body armor? Why didn't the vehicles have the proper plating?

Why did we not send in enough troops from the beginning? Why did we even go to war? Bin Laden was not in Iraq. To this day, he still has not paid for his crimes.

What about our problems at home? We have debt that is growing by leaps and bounds, with no signs of slowing down.

Our airports and ports are still unsafe. Our borders are porous. The Bush White House failed the people on the Gulf Coast.

Big oil companies are charging whatever they please for gas. Health costs are going through the roof. How can a drug company charge $100,000 for cancer drugs?

What do we hear from Washington? Scandals. Spies being outed, congressmen going to jail, lobbyists' spending out of control.

With Bush in charge, the only thing that is constant is the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.

I ask, has anything gone right? Why would anyone vote for a government like this?
