Bush's "Perfect Storm" Gets Worse

When I suggested some time ago that Bush was facing "the perfect storm", Hurricane Katrina was not what I had in mind! But now, in the aftermath of Katrina, with things in Iraq going nowhere, gas prices at historic highs, and following Bush's dismal poll numbers even before Katrina, the outlook for Bush & Co is as grim as it has ever been.

Just look at the weeks ahead. The Mississippi Delta body count is likely to rise steadily, day after day, with grisly details like unidentifiable, skinless bodies making the TV news every night. Meanwhile, Cindy Sheehan's tour will be heading to Washington, no doubt picking up steam from a lot of angry locals as it moves across the East Coast. And meanwhile, the political fallout from the lack of preparation before Katrina is going to just keep growing. For Karl Rove, it's an utter nightmare (let's not forget the Fitzgerald enquiry either).

Democrats are getting some stick at the moment for staying quiet. But the oldest and wisest know that they will be accused of "playing politics" if they get too vocal at this stage. Besides, there are no doubt Democrats who also face a share of the blame (and y'all know I am no big fan of Democrats to start with). But there are plenty of other voices to be heard right now, and the facts will speak for themselves over the coming weeks.

If there is any justice in this world, Bush will go down in history as the Vacationing President, a man who was entirely focussed on "me time" while two of the greatest disasters in US history befell his country, a man whose administration(s) missed all the warning signs then tried to blame others for their own failures, an immoral cheerleader for the upper classes who stacked the US government with incompetent buffoons, a retarded ignoramus whose wilfull ignorance squandered whatever "victory" the USA might ever have claimed at the end of the Cold War.

Meanwhile, another hurricane has formed over the Atlantic:

Maria is the 13th named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season, one of the busiest on record. Historically, only about four or five named storms form by this time of year, according to the hurricane center.

At this stage, it's expected to remain east of Bermuda. But imagine if it doesn't... Maybe then Bush would start to believe in Global Warming?
