David Corn asks a fair question, under the circumstances: Do Bush and Cheney Want To Lose? But Corn doesn't explain why they might want to lose. Here's one thought: the GOP can then blame the Dems for looming political gridlock over the next two years, and hold the White House (and their much-vaunted Executive Power) in 2008. They can also clean up the mess in Iraq over the next two years (after the new Oil Law is signed, of course) and be ready for a new war in 2009.

It's not a theory I agree with, BTW. But it's worth considering.
