NOW Can We Talk Impeachment?
As Josh Marshall reports, AP and NBC [and now CBS, and WaPo...] have called Virginia for the Dems, and the GOP is set to concede the Virginia Senate race tomorrow.
Wow. Dems controlling House and Senate.
Forget about gridlock: straight into action!
Wow.
Surely impeachment now has to be on the agenda!?!? John Conyers already has the papers drawn up. In short time, the Dems can have inquiries set up, with results that the MSM cannot ignore, and millions who voted for Bush will be shocked - shocked! - to hear what has been going on for the last three years or more. Even Rupert Murdoch will be forced to swing behind the tide of outrage.
The alternative for the Dems is to play it safe, cling to the middle, and try not to rock the political boat in case they get the blame for things in 2008. Which path would YOU choose to travel?
Oh, and the great news from a poetic justice POV:
Bush is TOAST, baby - TOAST!!!
He is going to look more stupid than ever over the next two years. I can't wait to watch his stupid face on TV, trying to spin on the smell of his own excrement. Hoo boy.
This could be fun.
A US collegue of mine says "the country is in no mood for impeachment." Fair enough, but what's the alternative? Bush and Cheney have exalted the role of the Executive above any Congressional oversight. They have embraced torture and secret prisons, pre-emptive war and massive state-sponsored wire-tapping. They have defied the US Constitution again and again and again.
If you think they are going to back down without a fight, you got another thing coming. Either the Dems take the fight to them, or they throw away the huge swell of electoral support we have just witnessed. We saw how Bush threw away global support post 9/11. Dems better not repeat that mistake.
Sure, the Dems said they would not impeach. But they never really expected to win both House and Senate, not in their wildest dreams. The doors of possibility are now open.

A great day! It make all the blogging worth while, hey? Which reminds me, thank you - for your consistent efforts in cutting through the msm spin and getting the good oil in Bush and his cronies. One down...
Your blog has been excellent Gandhi, and you inspired me to start mine.
Global Warming Watch So thanks for that too. Just thought you should know.
Nancy Pelosi and Coward Dean have both said publicly that impeachment is not part of the plan.
For what it's worth (if anything at all), my take on the whole sorry mess is here:
You Have To Know He's Lying, And You Have To Wish She Were, Too
Further ... sad to say, I am dubious about the "control" of the Senate. At best, the Democrats can claim a 51-49 advantage but that's only if you count Lieberman as a Democrat. And of course we all know he's not, even though the craven media like to portray him that way.
I have no doubt that the sequel will be interesting but I don't think it will be pretty. Still hoping you are a lot closer to the head of this nail than I am, but not putting much stock in those hopes. We will see...
WP,
I am hoping Pelosi only said that to get elected. There are going to be inqiries, and the public will expect some outcomes when (if) they find out what's been going on. Pelosi can they say, "Well, we weren't planning on impeachment, but what choice to we have now?"
As for Liebermann, Josh Marshall says a GOP Senator (WY) has just announced he has leukemia: could be another seat up for grabs soon.
